This is not the first World Record for the team of Jason and Mady.Since they have started fishing together they have managed to achieve 8 other World Record from their boats, 5 of which were Dogtooth Tuna Line Class Records.
This is the second 30 lbs Line Class Record Dogtooth which has been held by Jason while jigging.
The previous one was a 71.50 kg Dogtooth caught at Latham Island, on the 25h of March 2006.Jason has been fishing these waters since he was a kid and he has managed to find a few good spots which are different from the general areas, and they seem to hold record size Dogtooth Tuna.
Thanks to Jason and Mady's extraordinary catches and records, the area of Latham, otherwise unknown to most, has become very demanded and reknown as being one of the best destination in the World for big GT and Dogtooth.
Unfortunately, contrary of what others might believe, in the area of Latham, Mafia and Channel, large dogtooth tuna seem to congregate only in certain specific little spots: 3 at Latham, a couple in the Channel and a few at Mafia Island
More Dogtooth area are found in the region of Kilwa and Pemba Island.Although Jason found those areas more than 15 years ago, being well aware of the vulnerability of these critters and of the large commercial interest they create, he limited hmself to fish for Dogtooth Tuna only a few months a year and he showed these areas (which up to date were still unknown to mosts) only to a few close friends.
The biggest Dogtooth tuna Jason and Mady caught this year are:
100.5 kg on 80 lbs
84 kg on 30 lbs
82.3 kg on 50 lbs
74 kg
72 kg on 50 lbs
71 kg
Several 60ies kg
and several smaller sizes
During his fishing, Jason has fished extensively , all along the Tanzanian coast, getting to know all the best fishing areas, from North to South, from the Pemba Channel, down through to Kilwa, were he went and did a survey to see if the area was suitable for charter fishing and later for a "fishability study" for the Kilwa Ruins Lodge.
