Catches of 600 or more kgs per boat per day are not uncommon in this period.
For big yellowfin up to 100 kgs August to end of October are the best period.

KILWA
Large schoals of Yellowfin Tuna also pass through Kilwa area (October - November). Unfortunately they do not hold in this area for long, so catches can vary from very good to very poor, from one week to the other one.

SOUTH ZANZIBAR CHANNEL
They are present almost all year round but in this area, they can get very shy, and sometimes difficult to approach due to the constant pressure they receive from the local commercial fishermen.

Dorado moves in these water in huge numbers especially from February through to May/April when the rains are along the coast and dirty water, algae and sea weed, concentrate creating long lines in the sea.
During this time of the year, you can find them all along the Tanzanian coast, but the best area is the one which receives the floodings from the Rufiji river Delta which are Mafia Island, South Zanzibar Channel and Kilwa.
Here it is possible to catch up to 60 Dorado in just a few hours fishing.
Sizes are not as big as in other parts of the world (5 to 20 kg), but being present in large numbers, they offer plenty of action and excellent oppurtunities for light tackle and fly fishing.

MAFIA
Tanzania is not as good as its neighbouring country Kenya in what concerns the bilffish fisheries, but you can still have a very good bite around Mafia Island especially during the period of February through to March/April. During this period you can raise up to 15 to 20 fish a day on a good sport fishing boat.

KILWA
Kilwa is also a quite good area for Sailfish, during the month of November/December and February/April.
The sizes of the Sailfish here in Tanzania are not as big as in other parts of the world (20 to 40 kg).

MARLIN :
* * *  *            Latham Island: (September/November and February/April)
* * *               Mafia Island : (September/November and February/April)
* * *  *            South Zanzibar Channel: (September/November and February/April)
* * *               Kilwa: (September/November and February/April)

Tanzania is defefnitely not a Marlin destination as much as its neighbouring country Kenya except for the North Pemba Island and the Pemba Channel which are excellent during the season.
Although you can encounter Marlin all along the Tanzanian coast, they are defenitely not found in large number but their sizes are generally very large, (150/300 kg.)
